Accessing your digital coursebook or workbook in Cambridge Reader
Cambridge Reader is our platform for digital books, including Coursebooks, Workbooks, Teacher Resources and Digital Classroom.
It can be used online, or there is a Cambridge Reader app which allows you to read books offline.
In order to access your digital resource, you will need to activate it using an access code.
Your school may have activated a license on your behalf, in which case you should contact your teacher or your school administrator for further information.
Once activated, you will find your digital book on your Resources screen.
NOTE: If your book is not showing on your Resources screen after activating your code, please log out from your account and log back in to reflect the changes.
Click on the book cover to open the components in it.
Click on each component to access it. Cambridge Reader opens in a new browser window.
You will see the following features, described in more detail below.
The left-hand toolbar
Cambridge Reader has several generic controls in the left-hand menu. Not all of these apply to all products. See below for details on how to use each one:
Contents
The Contents button allows you to navigate to a particular point in the book using the chapters and subchapters. You can scroll up and down the Contents bar and expand and contract sections using the caret marks ^. Your location in the book is marked in green.
Bookmarks
Bookmarks allow you to mark pages so you can later go back to them easily. You can leave a bookmark anywhere by using the button at the top left or right-hand side of the page as you can see below:
Some of our titles allow you to bookmark from the bottom toolbar rather than the left/right-hand toolbar.
You can access a list of your Bookmarks by using the left-hand menu.
My activity
My Activity lists any annotations or links you have made to your book.
You can sort your Activity list by chapter in the Contents tab. Contract and expand the notes by using the caret marks.
You can also sort your list by the time in which you created the note, in the Time tab.
Find your notes, weblinks and highlights using the Filters button. You can filter by Chapter/Topics and/or Annotation Type (Note, Weblink, Hyperlink).
You can jump to your notes in the book with the arrow icon, edit them with the pencil icon, or delete them with the trash can icon. These controls are found below each Activity section:
Media
The Media button opens a list of multimedia assets (audio, video, PDFs) associated with your book.
You can choose to view them by chapter, by the pages you are at, or view all the media in the book. Also, you can jump to the location of the media item using the Goto arrow next to the resource, or view additional information of it with the corresponding icon.
You can also filter the view by type of media and/or Chapter/Topics, enlarge the icons or view them in a list
Glossary
Some of our titles have a handy built-in Glossary of key language and terms. This can be accessed from the left-hand toolbar and browsed alphabetically by clicking on the letters of the list.
If the definition of a word is too large, you can view it completely by clicking on the ‘more’ option below it.
The right-hand toolbar
The right-hand toolbar controls how you view your digital resource at different sizes:
Switch to a single-page view
Switch back to the default double-page spread view
Pan around your page (only available once the page is zoomed)
Zoom into or out of the page.
This magnification feature is useful if you need to focus on a particular part of the page.
Fit to screen. Your page will show at either its maximum width or height.
The bottom control bar
The bottom control bar has some variations depending on your product type, but generally covers:
Local reader settings
Local reader settings allow you to customise font and font size to suit your reading preferences.
Note that in our fixed-layout books (which exactly match the printed book), local reader settings are restricted to ‘show/hide annotations’.
Bookmark
Some of our titles allow you to bookmark from the bottom toolbar rather than the left-hand toolbar.
Full-screen mode
Full-screen mode allows you to view your book with no browser toolbars, maximizing display size.
You can exit the full-screen mode using the minimizing icon on the bottom control bar, by pressing Esc on your keyboard, or with the cross appearing when placing the pointer on the top of the screen.
Page navigation
Page navigation allows you to control your movement between the next and previous page.
Some titles also allow you to navigate to a specific page by clicking on page number.
