At the end of this onboarding tutorial, you will be able to create a task, assign it to your students and track their progress through the task.

Prerequisites
Step 1: Creating a simple task using the task manager
This step presents the view of the teacher.
The Task manager allows teachers to direct students to resources and build them into a sequence. This step will show how to create a task for Cambridge lower secondary 7, topic 1.1 Adding and subtracting integers that includes lesson notes, exercise questions and quiz questions.
- Navigate to the Task manager screen from the navigation.
- Select Create to start creating a new task.
- Enter a name for the new task.
- Select Directed task.
- Select Next
- Tasks are created by adding activities to the task area.
- Add lesson notes as the first step by dragging and dropping the lesson notes activity.
- When an activity is added, an option box will display that allows you to select options.
- Select the course, chapter, and topic for the lesson notes step. Select insert to add the step.
- Add exercise questions to the task by dragging and dropping the exercise activity.
- Select the course, chapter, and topic for the exercise. A message can also be added to direct learners to only answer some questions. Select insert to add the step.
- Add questions to the task by dragging and dropping the questions activity.
- Select the course, chapter, and topic.
- The question options also require the level and number of questions to be set. Select level 2 and include 5 questions.
- Select insert to add the questions step.
- Other activity types are available – try adding some more to the task. The activities available will depend on the product and resources available for each topic.
- Select back to return to the Task Manager screen.
- The new task will be listed in the My Tasks tab.
Step 2: Assigning a task to a class
This step presents the view of the teacher.
Once a task has been created it will be available to assign in the Task manager screen. Tasks need to be assigned for students to complete. The same task can be assigned several times and to different classes.
- Navigate to the Task manager screen from the navigation.
- Select the task you want to assign by checking the tick box
- Select Assign from the options
- When Assign is selected an option box will display that will let you set the options for the assignment.
- Set a start date for when learners can begin the task.
- Select a class from the list of classes you have joined.
- Change the task name and add a message that the learners will read before starting the task.
- Select Assign to send the tasks to the learners. They will receive a notification that they have a task waiting when they log in.
Step 3: Viewing learner progress though an assigned task
This step presents the view of the teacher.
Teachers can monitor how learners are progressing through an assigned task. To view this information learners will need to have started the task.
- Navigate to the Task manager screen from the navigation.
- Select the Assigned Tasks tab
- This screen will list all the tasks that have been assigned. It displays when the task was started, the class that the task was assigned to and if the task is still available to learners or has ended.
- Select Check Progress
- This screen will present an overview of the classes progress through the task.
- The results area presents each learner’s work.
- Selecting a learner will show more detail for each step of the task
- Selecting the results for a step will show more detail on the learner’s work.
- When you have finished reviewing the learners work, select Back to return to the Assigned Tasks tab.
Step 4: Closing an assigned task
This step presents the view of the teacher.
Tasks are available for students to complete from the start date. They will remain open until a teacher chooses to close them.
- Navigate to the Task manager screen from the navigation and select the Assigned Tasks tab.
- Select the task that you want to close by selecting the checkbox.
- Select Close to close the task
- Closing a task will end access for learners.
